Does anyone know if you need a Frocking Letter or something to that effect if you make E8? Or is just the ceremony enough? Was wondering if you need anything official before you can pin on your next rank, if you made it and your CO authorizes the frocking. Thanks in advance.

Last year when my husband made SCPO he received a frocking letter and they did a pinning ceremony. He was pinned and wearing E8 2 days after the results were out last year. Not sure if this is the norm or not, but that was our experience.

Good morning all,

A frocking letter will be needed per MILPERSMAN 1420-060 (Frocking of Enlisted Personnel). However, you will not be entitled to a new I.D. Card until advanced or paid for that paygrade.

According to MILPERSMAN 1420-060, "Qualified E-8/9 Selectees may be frocked upon receipt of official board selection results via NAVADMIN message."

Thank you all for this information. I looked through MILPERSMAN 1420-060, and it looks like you must submit a Page 13 upon Frocking, but it doesn't appear that a Frocking Letter is mandatory, but is optional if a CO would like to present one of these. Thanks again to all for the info, and reference!
