Which commands out there are actively running Chief 365? If so, fill me in on some of the details. Thanks.

Mercifully, not here... you can only go so many years in a row hearing 'you'll make it next year, you have a great record' and on top of it having to participate in a lot of events that only lead to a harder fall after another N in August. It is bad enough seeing that N 5 years in a row, and compounding it just frustrates me and a lot of others. There is a reason why there is an induction for CPO Selectees, and until I am duly selected, I have a shop to run and duties to perform, focusing on being an FCPO and being a TRUE leader that will eventually, hopefully lead to selection. Forcing board eligible sailors into 365 does the opposite of what is intended- it takes an already busy work day and turns it on its ear and does what I stated above.

If the Navy has to force sailors to do what they already should be doing, i.e. interacting with their Chiefs, gaining knowledge, and being a leader, then we are in dire trouble.

And we are... Obviously MCPON has seen otherwise, should we have to be telling people who are leaders how to lead, NO... It is clearly not a "perfect world"... And for that matter "running a shop and duties" are only part of being a Chief. You will find that out when you are Selected.

As for not doing 365 events, you're only loosing out on a great thing and so are your leaders.

That's what I was getting at, Chief... finding out when I am Selected. Interacting with the Mess is vital in a well-run division anyways, and taking onboard a lot of the knowledge required, the mentoring, etc. No one really needs 365 events if they are doing what they are supposed to be doing and the support for FCPOs is there. Then, when induction season begins, the rest should be revealed to those who are Selected. Maybe I have been in the Navy for far too long, but personal initiative goes a LONG way in the process, and 365 is just another method to take away from personal initiative and to lump everyone together. Not to mention, as I said, the toll it takes on someone to go through all of these events just to get an N, especially when so many Chiefs tell you you're good... disheartening to say the least.

I agree with you on being disheartening, I myself didn't have to go through that so I'm not going to try and make it sound like I know how you feel. Your time will come when it is right. Not all First Classes are ready for Induction or even to become a Selectee by any means... this is a way to help out the many that are lost, and also strengthen the Chief's mess as well.

Sometimes you have to trust your leaders and follow them with a blind fold, or when you don't want to.

Have a great weekend! Let me know if you need anything related to 365 or anything else!!!

Thank you Chief for listening to me and not lecturing me... it gives me some hope that maybe, just maybe, my time is coming sooner rather than later. It wouldn't be as bad on me if I didn't see all of my former shipmates getting to where I want to be combined with what I mentioned about record reviews and the positive feedback. Sometimes we all need motivation to get through these kinds of times.

I look at the program we are running now (CPO 365), the phases, the training, and look back at my transition and say "Man I wish I had that". I was passed over for 7 years and thought I knew it all when I finally was selected. Boy was I wrong! Those of you who are going through it now, wait for phase 2, you wil really begin to see what I am tralking about!

Agree that we as leaders should be on the deckplates leading, however, there are some merits to the 365 program. Case in point, our last training topic was the EDVR, and I actually re-learned some useful tools. Look at it like that, a chance to interact with your Chiefs, without the daily interuptions while on the deckplate, and a chance to either learn or re-learn some useful information. Take what you can from it, and grow. Even as Chiefs who have gone through induction, there is still A LOT to learn/re-learn, same for everybody.

Is anybody really ever ready to be a selectee or a chief? It's my understanding, and I could very well be wrong, that being a Chief is about having the mess and a strengthened idea as a unified group. Therefore, even the weakest Chief, finds strength through his/hers mess.

We've been successfully running CPO 365 here at ATG. The CPO Mess and the FCPO's are really motivated. It's iron sharpenning iron, a real testament to camraderie. Whether you've been selected or not, you're still a FCPO and that alone is an awesome thing. The Navy has degraded the authority and rank of a FCPO. It's time to be who you really are, be a leader. Bring your experience and your leadership and be a part of the solution.
