VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (NNS) -- The Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) expects to distribute nearly 35,000 free phone cards to Sailors and Marines away from their homeports and those forward deployed to overseas ports during the holidays.

To thank service members away from home this holiday season, the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) is giving away free $10 phone cards. NEXCOM expects to distribute nearly 35,000 free phone cards to Sailors and Marines away from their homeports and those forward deployed to overseas ports during the holidays.

"For over 10 years, NEXCOM has given free phone cards to Sailors and Marines deployed and away from home during the holiday season," said NEXCOM's Command Master Chief Shannon Howe. "As a military command, we understand the sacrifices our military members and their families make in service to our country. Being away from home during the holidays is never easy. We hope a phone call home on us will make it just a little easier."

The $10 AT&T prepaid phone cards can be used via the Afloat Personal Telecommunications Service system, the ship's Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) system or ashore in the United States or any foreign port where AT&T has a presence.

The ships and submarines that will receive the free phone cards are: USS Monterey (CG 61); USS James E. Williams (DDG 95); USS Georgia (Ssn 729); USS Virginia (Ssn 774); USS Minnesota (SSN 783); USS San Juan (SSN 751); USS Mt Whitney (LCC 20); USS Donald Cook (DDG 75); USS Carney (DDG 64); USS Ross (DDG 71); USS Porter (DDG 78); USS Nimitz (CVN 68); USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71); USS America (LHA 6); USS San Diego (LPD 22); USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52); USS Bunker Hill (CG 52); USS Princeton (CG 59); USS Lake Erie (CG 70); USS Hopper (DDG 70); USS Higgins (DDG 76); USS O'kane (DDG 77); USS Howard (DDG 83); USS Shoup (DDG 86); USS Preble (DDG 88); USS Chafee (DDG 90); USS Pinckney (DDG 91); USS Halsey (DDG 97); USS Kidd (DDG 100); USS Sampson (DDG 102); USS Ashland (LSD 48); USS Bon Homme Richard (LHD 6); USS Germantown (LSD 42); USS Green Bay (LPD 20); USS Wasp (LHD 1); USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76); USS Antietam (CG 54); USS Shiloh (CG 67); USS Chancellorsville (CG 62); USS Barry (DDG 52); USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54); USS John S.
