Chief Petty Officer Advancement Process

The advancement results for Chief Petty Officer are released as a two-step process. First, all advancement-eligible PO1s take the Navy-wide advancement exam. At this time, NAC continues to receive and process exam answer sheets - that includes late exams. Once the majority of those answer sheets are processed, NAC rank-orders all candidates by the Final Multiple Score (FMS) in each rating. The list of Selection Board Eligible (SBE) candidates (those Sailors who have an FMS that falls in the top 60% in their rating) is normally published in March each year. The second step of the annual CPO advancement results is managed by PERS, where each candidate's record is reviewed by a selection board. Based on quotas, PERS then publishes a list of CPO selectees. E7 Cycle advancements are from September to August.
